What is a smart payment terminal, and how does it work? Expand
A modernized version of the legacy credit card terminal, a smart payment terminal does more than allow you to accept swiped credit and debit card payments. These versatile wireless devices also enable you to securely process both chip card and contactless payments, like Apple Pay and Samsung Pay, wherever your business takes you.
Smart terminals even offer benefits beyond fast and frictionless payment acceptance. Along with the payments software that powers them, smart terminals give you access to real-time data and a whole host of back-office tools like inventory, employee, and customer management that can help you run your business more efficiently and profitably than ever before.
Smart terminals can accept payments in several ways. Your customer can swipe their card through your terminal’s reader. They can dip (insert) a chip card into it. Or, they can tap or wave their card, mobile device, or wearable within a few inches of your terminal to securely make a contactless payment.
The cardholder’s unique information will then be submitted to their merchant services provider, who will forward the data on to the cardholder’s bank. If the transaction is approved by the bank and the cardholder has sufficient funds to make the purchase, the payment will be accepted. The proceeds will then be sent to the merchant services provider, who will forward them to your merchant account.

From payment through transmission and storage, we secure all cardmember data with certified point-to-point encryption and military-grade tokenization. We also control the entire transaction process — which means no third-party security risks.
How quickly are the funds deposited in my account? Expand
North offers two options for funding, both fast and both free. With Next Day Funding, transactions processed and closed Monday through Friday before 10 p.m. ET will be deposited into your bank account the next business day. Transactions closed on the weekend will be deposited on Monday. With Same Day Funding, all transactions closed and processed before 10:30 a.m. ET are deposited into your account that same day.
